Happy Thanksgiving

If you missed last week’s post be sure to check it out. It’s long, but very informative for those in the process or about to be in the process of working with a senior that may need more help then usual. A quick note: Holiday season is here and if you are like most people who are unable to be with their loved ones due to the pandemic make sure they are not alone. In home care is there to help others when needed. Now on to this week’s post.

This week is Thanksgiving week! Not that you need a reminder. While most of us have skipped right to Christmas with stores and neighborhoods already decked out (partially guilty), we still have the big turkey 🦃 day to prepare for. Since we aren't gathering around the table with family and friends like we usually do the focus this year is especially on the food even more than it normally is. Food is always a good subject since everyone can add something to the conversation with their favorites and preferences. What food will you be planning to to have at your table?

We are very much looking forward to traditional thanksgiving dishes like green bean casserole, and bread rolls while adding in some non-traditional dishes such as cranberry fig sauce (using figs from the backyard), pumpkin cheesecake, and this year a turducken. For those that don't know what a turducken is it’s a deboned chicken stuffed into a deboned duck, further stuffed into a deboned turkey. It sounds complicated, but we have had turducken before and enjoyed it so we thought we would have some again this year.

We have bought our ingredients and have already made the cranberry fig sauce and pumpkin cheesecake since those recipes are able to be made ahead. Less work for us to do on the day of. The cranberry fig sauce was tweaked a little bit from the original and it turned out great! We will definitely have to save it so we can make it again. The pumpkin cheesecake was pretty good too if your a fan of pumpkin.

With all this food we will probably need to schedule a walk in between rounds maybe even a few walks or a trip to the park weather permitted. We do not need to add more weight to our unfortunate quarantine additions. Anyone else the same? A nap might be a good idea as well.

We hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and remember to be grateful for all that you have. You can bet mascot Riley is going to enjoy her Thanksgiving with nibbles from the feast we plan to have. We suspect she will clock out midway through the day for a good nap.
