Introducing Riley

Our Mascot

One of the perks of having your own business is that you make the decisions like having your dog be the mascot for your company. So meet Riley!

Here’s her story: We previously had a golden retriever as part of the family, but she died at 13. It wasn’t until about five years later that the thought to get another dog occurred. We had seen Pupsquad at the Urban Harvest Farmers Market and I felt it was time. So we went to their website and found Riley, well what would soon be Riley. We sent in our form for her and waited.

Luckily, they got in touch with us and as soon as we met her she laid down for a belly rub. It was meant to be and once we got her home she laid right on my leg on the kitchen floor. (I included this exact picture below) She knew she was home. She was also the last of her litter to be adopted so we got very lucky in snagging her. It’s been almost three years now and our once three month old puppy at the time of her adoption is certainly older and bigger. I miss the days when I could easily pick her up. I wouldn’t quite say she’s wiser since she still acts like a big baby sometimes.

She’s a great addition and quite a character. She’s definitely different from our previous dog. Riley loves playing and being outdoors, which at the time we got her she in fact hated, she’s a sloppy drinker, and very vocal about her feelings. She will tell you if she’s upset or wants something repeatedly or very high pitched. Sometimes it even feels like she is having a conversation with us arguing or tattletaling when she gets mad at us.

Riley is always on guard duty. When I say always I mean always. If you pass by our house I’m sure you will hear her. She has also had a few run ins with raccoons while on duty, which thankfully she hasn’t gotten severely injured. Mostly, she has some scars of claw marks on her and some she has done to herself. We go outside with her at night now because we worry. We have a fighter on our hands. She stares out the windows majority of the time when she is inside and does not care for anyone or anything to be in “her” yard. Don’t get me started on the squirrels. She will be after them all day, everyday. It’s always squirrels with dogs isn’t it?

She’s also been difficult with being picky eating her food, which has been a struggle with us since our old dog was a trash can eating everything. Certain foods she won’t eat and certain sauces she will not lick. We have adjusted and now add canned chicken to put on top of her food so she will eat. Even then, she sometimes will not eat. She can be quite stubborn to the point where she pukes from having an empty stomach. Yea, that has been fun. We’ve also been spoiling her with homemade chicken jerky, homemade frozen peanut butter treats, and homemade pumpkin cookies. Definitely big on DIY and at least we know what we are feeding her.

She sleeps with the humans in bed even though she has her own bed with a box full of toys beside her. Riley is one of the many spoiled dogs out there and we love her. She’s such a good dog and listens when we tell her something. She’s quite a curious one too.
